Happy to share the latest publication from Langmuir which discusses the non-isothermal crystallization behaviour of Pickering emulsion templated porous constructs. The effect of crosslinking and porosity on the crystallization behaviour of porous constructs have been detailed using various non-isothermal crystallization models and XRD. Always thankful to my supervisor Prof. Rajiv K. Srivastava for his unconditional guidance.#porous #crystallization #polymerscience https://lnkd.in/dQQza6wn

WEBINAR 20 SEPT 2023𝐁𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐑𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲What are the advantages of testing #bitumen with a #DSR or #rheometer in comparison to other methods? How will bitumen behave in extreme weather conditions in locations varying from arctic icebergs to hot deserts? What can shear modulus and its components tell us about the stiffness and strength of a #bituminous mixture? This Bitumen Rheology #Webinar will answer these questions, and many more. Bitumen, is the #binder that holds an #asphalt #pavement together. #Rheology is the science of flow and deformation; it not only encompasses the study of fluids (i.e., viscous behavior) but also the study of solids (i.e., elastic behavior) along with their interstate of #viscoelastic behavior. This webinar brings both these worlds together.Register now at https://lnkd.in/gdEZwF2t

📢 New Research Alert!I'm excited to announce the publication of our latest research paper, "Peritectic orthopyroxene entrainment during partial melting of garnet peridotite produced the Bushveld Complex chromite deposits". Our paper provides a novel hypothesis that explains the vast and economically very important enrichment of chromium relative to other compatible elements in the Rustenburg Layered Suite of the Bushveld Complex, which has remained a long-term subject of debate. We use thermodynamically constrained phase equilibrium modelling to analyse the nature of the mantle partial melting reactions in viable mantle source compositions and show that in some areas of the subcratonic mantle, peritectic orthopyroxene is produced by the incongruent melting reactions. Entrainment of this peritectic crystal population to the magma changes the magma chemistry to allow chromite and olivine to be present in significant volume on arrival of the magma batches into upper crustal magma chambers. This crystal cargo can undergo density sorting to produce chromitite and dunite layers directly on emplacement of the magma as sills. 📃 Authored by Tahnee Otto, Gary Stevens, Jean-François Moyen, Matthew Jason Mayne and John D Clemens, this paper is published open access in Mineralium Deposita; read it here: https://lnkd.in/dFRrSQSB #ResearchPaper #chromitite #peritectic #BushveldComplex

😁 ACCEPTED! 😁 Another paper from my PhD work has been accepted. In this study, we investigated the micromechanics of grain boundaries in olivine (forsterite) in the low-temperature deformation regime. This is cool and important because the upper layers of our planet (and some other rocky planets) are made out of this mineral. Thus, how the plates move in different geological settings is directly impacted by the physical properties of this material. The work will be published in the AGU Journal of Geophysical Research - Solid Earth. You can find the pre-print here: https://lnkd.in/eKYDJwrm

Please take a look at our most recent publication on the nonlinear characterization of modified asphalt binders, authored by myself, Dr. Cassie Castorena and Dr. Shane Underwood. Here's the link to the paper:https://lnkd.in/gS6Y4JNcThis study is a follow-up on our previous works on this topic where we record the entire response waveform under large strains for a crumb rubber modified asphalt binder and analyze it using large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) rheology. We also evaluate the possibility of using strain-specific time-temperature shift factors for Chebyshev coefficients obtained from stress decomposition of the response waveform for modified asphalt binders.
