I smelt it as soon as I walked into the front door. That, plus the excited giggles from my daughter. It was a complete give away that she had been baking with her Gran.

Well it was those thoughts that ran swiftly through my mind as I smelt the most delicious fruit loaf baking in the oven.

It’s one of those recipes that mom always used to make when we were kids.

Mom used to let us help because it was one of her easy to make recipes, that wouldn’t stress her out in the kitchen!

Between this fruit loaf and a delicious banana bread recipe, the house will always smell amazing and afternoon tea will simply be heaven each and every time!

It takes patience to bake with kids.

Even the most simple tasks take two or three times longer than normal.

A complicated recipe is just not worth the effort.Unless of course you have an entire day to spend on it that is.

That is why mom would always make this fruit loaf recipe with us.

It is so straight forward that you don’t have to muster up a huge amount of patience to prepare yourself for having kids in the kitchen.

Yes, in an ideal world you would wait for it to cool. However if the taste buds can’t wait any longer, there is no reason why you can’t dig in.

The best thing about it being straight out the oven is that the outside is slightly crunchy whilst the inside is soft and warm.

It’s the kind of fruit loaf that is better chunky anyway. Do yourself a favor and just take a good amount to start with.

Whilst, this does contain fruit, I do get that it’s not exactly healthy. Cake rarely is unfortunately.

The Most Amazing Fruit Loaf Recipe

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 45 minutes

Total Time: 1 hour

The most amazing fruit loaf, light, fluffy and full of flavor. This will be a family favorite.

Ingredients

  • 8oz Self raising flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4oz margarine
  • 4oz caster sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 6oz dried fruit

Instructions

  1. Place flour and salt in bowl, rub in margarine.
  2. Add the sugar and fruit. Beat together eggs and milk
  3. Mix all together to make a soft dropping consistency
  4. Place in greased 6 inch or 7 inch loaf pan
  5. Bake in a fan oven at 175c for 45 minutes.

This is definitely one of those easy to make recipes that you are going to come back to time and time again.

There is so much to enjoy about it. The smell as it’s baking, the excited giggles with the kids as you make it, and of course the relaxing with a cup of tea and eating it.
